A number of other organisations provide training to the education community. A link to these groups and a short summary of the type of training courses they have available is provided in the table below.

Organisation

Summary

ALT

ALT organises a programme of workshops which are open to ALT members and non-members alike and usually held in academic venues. Topics covered range from institutional implementation of learning technologies, courseware development and electronic lectures, as well as those covering specific software such as assessment tools and learning environments

BUFVC

BUFVC provide regular one day courses, held at their offices in central London , covering subjects related to the use of film and video in learning, teaching and research. The courses cover a range of topics such as Copyright, encoding digital video, streaming and webcasting, as well as locating and using archival footage.

Netskills

Netskills delivers internet training workshops for individuals at a variety of sites across the UK , and workshops commissioned by organisations for their own staff. All their workshops are one day events, comprising of presentations, demonstrations and hands-on sessions with opportunities for questions and discussion. Their workshops broadly fall into four categories:

  • Working with the Internet
  • e-Learning
  • Developing a Web Site
  • Web Technologies

Regional Support Centres (RSCs)

Each of the RSCs provides access to training within their region. Courses vary depending on the requirements identified within the region.

TechDis

TechDis host a series of workshops, on various disability and technology related issues. These workshops are held monthly and are primarily based at their offices in York. These workshops are designed as small scale 'hands on' workshops that will enable participants to gain a deeper knowledge of the subject matter and thus disseminate the information to colleagues.

UCISA

UCISA provide courses relating to the work of their groups.

NLN Events Provides a  comprehensive catalogue of Staff Development events and resources for the post-16 sector
