Case Studies

One of the aims of MCAS is to involve colleges and RSCs in sharing their experiences of wide area connectivity projects.

We would like to hear from colleges with an interesting wide area connectivity story to tell which other colleges may find useful, as they search for a solution to a problem or which will help them to avoid making a mistake.

It is appreciated that college IT departments are very busy and so two alternative approaches are proposed:

  1. Colleges can write the case studies themselves using the guidelines published below. Funding is available to colleges for writing such reports in recognition of the effort involved.
  2. A JANET(UK) consultant can write up the case study following on a site visit and conversations with the staff concerned. The benefit of this approach is that minimal effort is required on the college’s part, whilst allowing their experiences and achievements to be widely publicised. The college would retain final control of the text to be published.

For further information and guidance on case study content, please refer to case study guidelines.

Technology Papers

MCAS also has plans to produce papers about the inter-site connection technology and issues associated with running a network over multiple sites. We would be interested to hear about those areas that would be of most interest to colleges.

Suppliers and Advisors Information Store

Part of the MCAS remit is to collect and pass on information about suppliers and expert advisors who may be able to assist colleges in designing wide area network and campus/outreach centre inter-connectivity solutions, and in implementing such projects. The aim is to help to put colleges and other JANET connected organisations in contact with reputable suppliers who may be able to work effectively with the organisation to achieve a satisfactory solution.

Details from suppliers are now being sought for inclusion in our information store. Suppliers interested in having their details held by MCAS for forwarding to IT managers in UK colleges and other JANET connected organisations are invited to contact us. Please submit the appropriate information using either the Word or text documents linked below, as attachments to be e-mailed to mcas@ja.net:

Suppliers submitting their details to MCAS agree that such submission does not automatically qualify the supplier for inclusion in the information store, nor mean that UKERA is under any obligation to forward their details to organisations that make an enquiry.
