The University of Plymouth is a large post-1992 University, offering a choice of 11,500 modules and 2,800 degree programmes to its 25,000 students. There has been a large institutional emphasis on moving to a more student-centred model of learning, but distance learning provision has only been pursued in a small number of niche areas.
The main requirement of a VLE at Plymouth is therefore to support traditional and student-centred learning activities to students attending the University, across all areas of the curriculum. In our presentation, we will explain why the VLE needs of the University led to the decision to develop an in-house VLE, built on top of Microsoft Exchange 2000.
We will also provide detailed technical information on the solution adopted, including specifics on:
